Description

Écu d’or au soleil of King Charles VIII. is an artistic replica of a beautiful 15th century gold coin of the French King Charles VIII (1483 – 1498). Écu d’or au soleil could be translated as a Golden Shield in the Sun, which the monarch at the height of his power could consider himself to be. On the coin, above the coat of arms, we find a small sun.

A detailed replica and historically accurate design with a coat of arms and a cross with lilies. Ideal for collectors, history lovers, historical groups, camp games and fans of the film The Miser (see explanation below) 🙂

Obverse: Coat of arms with three lilies and a royal crown, above which is a golden sun. On the copy between the pearls is the Latin text: KAROLVS DEI GRA FRANCORVM REX  “Charles, by the grace of God, King of France.”

Reverse: Latin cross, on which the lily motif appears again. On the copy between the pearls there is a Greek-Latin inscription: XPC VINCIT XPC REGNAT XPC IMPERAT “Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ rules.” The capital Greek letters XRC – ChRS are an abbreviation of the Christological title of Jesus Christ and the words VINCIT, REGNAT and IMPERAT in Latin express Jesus’s sovereign power.

Écu d’or au soleil of King Charles VIII. has a diameter of 31 mm, thickness of 2 mm, material brass, without surface treatment.
Fill your chests and go on an adventure. Get inspired by the movie The Miser with Luis de Funes, in the lead role, where he opens a full chest with the treasure of Écu.
